| QUESTION: |
| I have a blue-green colored stone on my swimming pool deck. The installer did not get all of the mortar off of the stone when it was installed. Can I remove this now without damaging the stone? Should I put a sealer on this stone for protection? |

Yes to both of your questions. Sounds like you have something similar to what we call a Pennsylvania Blue Stone. The mortar may be removed with a solution of 1 part SUREKLEAN Vanatrol to 6 parts water. Prewet the stone thoroughly and allow cleaner to dwell 5 minutes. Agitate with a brush and rinse. Repeat if necessary. Do small test area to ensure that you achieve proper results. The stone and mortar should be protected from the elements. Freeze and thaw could damage both stone and mortar. Repairing the mortar can be expensive. For a no color change look use a penetrating water repellant. Our recommendation for water protection only is PROSOCO Weather Seal Natural Stone Treatment. Our recommendation for protection from food, water and oil is PROSOCO Limestone and Marble Protector. Both of these products can be reapplied as needed. If you desire to darken the stone, we recommend Paver Enhancer by PROSOCO. This product will enhance the color but has a possibility of blushing(turning White) in moist areas. Never apply acrylics over wet or damp surfaces. |
